Built in 1968 it exhibits art, workshops, confereces, instalations, sculpture and theater.
The Museum in its origin was a project of the National Frontier Plan (PRONAF) that was inaugurated in the Heroic Matamoros, Tamaulipas in July 19, 1969 as a Craft Center dedicated to the promotion of the crafts, for benefit of its authors and of the national economy.
At the ends of the decade of the 80’s and principles of the 90’s functioned like Museum of the Corn.
Subsequently, from 1998, like Cultural Center Mario Pani, in memory of the talented architect that designed the building.
In October 21, 2002 opens its doors as the MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART OF TAMAULIPAS,
thanks to the initiative of the State Government of Tamaulipas in
conjuction with the National Counsel for the Arts and Culture and the
City Hall of H. Matamoros, Tamaulipas.
THE MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART OF TAMAULIPAS has as an objective to collaborate in the process of distribution, production, consumption and analysis of the visual arts in the state, and to be receiver of the artistic proposals of advanced of the national and international art.
Inside the installations of the MACT, you will find the FONART
Crafts Store, its mission is to support the artisans of Mexico to
contribute to improve their standards of living and to preserve the
values of its traditional culture, linking the creativity of the
producer with the final consumer, though programs of support and
effective strategies of commercialization that permit to offer quality
handicrafts to the national and international market.
